Goodly Words

What is it about Law and Grace?

The moment you see what the law is, you cannot have any doubt that it must effectually exclude man from God's presence forever....The trial is over, the sentence is given, and that is the issue of the law — its foreseen and designed issue — every mouth stopped, and man guilty.

Words of Wisdom

I look upon all the world as my parish; thus far I mean, that, in whatever part of it I am, I judge it meet, right, and my bounden duty to declare unto all that are willing to hear, the glad tidings of salvation.
This is the work which I know God has called me to; and sure I am that His blessing attends it. Great encouragement have I therefore, to be faithful in fulfilling the work He has given me to do. His servant I am, and, as such, am employed according to the plain direction of His Word.

Welcome to Bethel Chapel's website.
Whether you are in regular fellowship or a visitor, we trust that you'll find the  site informative and inspiring. Our intention, therefore, is not only to communicate the events and activities of the assembly, but also the gospel of Jesus Christ through the devotions, articles, sermons and other information on the site.

We are a Bible-believing and family-oriented assembly. We seek to meet, worship
and serve our risen, ascended and glorified Head of His Church, Jesus Christ, in the
way that Paul taught the early churches or assemblies to do. If you meet with us,
you'll probably find similarities, but also some differences with the mainstream
Protestant evangelical churches.

The Bible What does the Bible say?
Did John Wesley foresee the perversion of Scripture by modern translations?

"It would be excusable if these menders of the Bible would offer their hypotheses modestly. But one cannot excuse them
when they not only obtrude their novel scheme with the utmost confidence, but even ridicule that scriptural one which always was and is now held by men of the greatest learning and piety in the world. Hereby they promote the cause of infidelity more effectually than either Hume or Voltaire."

Wesley's Journal, 8 August 1773.

THE BIBLE - THE TRUE UNIVERSITY

Samuel Ridout (1855-1924)

"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ" (2 Cor. 10: 5).

Extract from the “Preliminary” of the booklet (1st printing 1912)

From the days of Darwin to the present time there has been a marked effort to discover in the processes and laws of nature that which will contradict the Scriptures. Without being avowedly hostile in every case, there can be no question that the theories of a numerically large majority of scientists have been hostile to the teachings of Scripture. They may generally be classed as materialistic and evolutionary.....

......How are we to let the full light of divine revelation shine into our minds? Most certainly it is not by ignorance and neglect; and we can say, with all the emphasis of which we are capable, that we have far more to fear from the neglect, the ignorance and the imperfect knowledge of the Scriptures in the people of God than we have from all the assaults of unbelief combined. The great trouble to-day is not that such and such universities are denying the Mosaic authorship of the Pentateuch and such and such modern scholars have repudiated the virgin birth of our Lord and His resurrection. These are but the by-play of Satan. We may expect them. What could we expect from the enemy of Christ and of man but blasphemous lies? But the dreadful thing is that the true children of God allow so many things to interfere with their knowing really what He has spoken.

Material interests, the daily struggle for a comfortable livelihood, the well-nigh universal demand for amusements of one kind and another, political agitation, and many other temporal things, are often allowed to intrude and to monopolize the time, part of which at least should be given by every Christian to knowing what the mind of God is. If any words of ours can arouse an interest in the people of God in that amazing and priceless treasure which we have in His word, we shall be thankful....
